Is Low-Code the Future of Software Development?

Low-code is not going to eliminate professional developers—it is going to change what developers spend their time doing. The biggest advantage of platforms such as Power Platform is abstraction. Developers and business teams can solve many workflow, application, integration, and automation requirements without building every component from scratch. This dramatically reduces development time for certain classes of applications. But enterprise development still requires engineering discipline: architecture, security, ALM, performance, integration patterns, APIs, data modeling, observability, governance, and maintainability. The future is therefore more likely to be pro-code + low-code + AI-assisted development, rather than low-code versus traditional development. A developer who understands both worlds will have an advantage: use low-code where abstraction creates leverage, and use pro-code when the business requirement demands control, extensibility, or specialized engineering.
